If this guy ever gets to fool anyone and wins some cash out of it, he should really consider taking one hell of an English crash course.

Why your Movable Type blog must die

So a guy named James A C Joyce from Kuro5hin suddenly lashes out at Movable Type and all MT bloggers in an explanation Why your Movable Type blog must die !

I think it’s a rather stupid post actually.
I don’t know why this guy thinks he’s in a position to judge other people and their blogs, and generalize his stereotype of MT bloggers.

Kuro5hin is one of the biggest and most known group blogs, even though i never really enjoyed it much, but i think it’s a shame something like this was posted there.

Retirement & Life

On saturday, I watched the movie About Schmidt starring Jack Nicholson, and telling the story of a newly retired man and his feelings that he wasted his life.

This really got me thinking. Not as much about the meaning of life (even though i did think of that) as about retirement and life after it.
It made me think: Where am I going ? Where will I be in 35 years when I reach retirement age ? What will I have to show for all my working years ? Am I happy with my career right now ? What are my future career plans ? How am I going to grow professionally ? What direction should I move in ? …etc.
Question after question just rushed through my brain, making me think even more and even harder.

I know what I dream of, but are my dreams possible in reality ?
If yes, then what steps should I take to get there ?
Risk ? Well nothing comes easy, risk is always there, endless calculations and miscalculations of risk.

I can’t say I got to any final conclusions with my thoughts, it’s all still an ongoing effort, as is life itself.
All i know is that I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished, although I know I could have accomplished a lot more if I put my mind to it, and that i’ve still got a lot of great things ahead waiting for me if God wills and I take the steps i should.

Countries I’ve Been To…

Countries I've been to...

Tunisia, Germany, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Kenya, France, Portugal, Switzerland, Morroco, Greece, Egypt, Libya, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Jordan, Syria, Thailand.

I love travel. I hope i can grow my list even bigger through the years.
If things go as planned, this year i’ll be able to add Lebanon to my list, as i’m hoping to jump over there for a quick tour in between visiting my wife’s family in Jordan.

The Eid, As I Spent It

Well, we spent the Eid at my parent’s place just like last year. We ate a bunch of dishes all based on meat from the freshly sacrificed sheep and they were yummy delicious.

During lunch, Tunisia’s 3rd match was going on against Guinea, so we all watched that.
They ended up in a draw (1-1), and so Tunisia passes to the quarter finals at the top of it’s group.
The next match will be this next saturday against Senegal, which should be a hard but exciting match, i hope the national team get their acts together for that one.

After the match we went and visited my Grandmother’s, where we also found a bunch of my paternal uncles and aunts, and then we went to visit my maternal uncles and aunts.

After that, we just got ourselves home and watched 1/4 of a movie before falling asleep.

And, that was the Eid as I spent it.

Social Networking Nonsense

Ok, call me whatever you want to call me, but i just don’t get this whole social networking thingie.
What’s the use ? Why does everyone think it’s cool ? Why is everyone so mad about it ?
I can’t find one good answer to any of these questions.

The concept’s been around for ages, and i’ve tried it out more than once, but everytime i never really found any good in it.

Six Degrees, LinkedIn, Orkut, Friendster, Tribe and the list goes on and on and on. Why ?

Why would anybody need to see a virtual representation of his network of friends, his friends’ friends and so forth ?
It’s totally useless and a big waste of time.

A way to make new friends ? Your friend’s friends aren’t necessarily your friends and your friend’s enemies aren’t necessarily your enemies. so what’s the point ?

A way to see how many degrees of seperation there are between you and the hot chick next door ? Don’t bother, you’re never gonna get her anyways !

A way to re-assure your complex self that you have friends ?
You need a shrink for God’s sake not a social networking site.

I’m ready to pay anyone who convinces me of the use of stuff like this.
Anyone interested ?

PC’ing an Apple G5

Well, i’m no Apple fan, and i’d most probably get lumps all over my body if i were forced to work with an Apple machine for a long time, but still i believe that nobody should mingle with one and screw it up the way this guy did.
Once a machine is sealed, it’s sacred, and you only open it up to either fix it or make it more powerful, but you don’t do this:

I got a shiny new Apple G5 for Christmas. I loved the case, but I’m no Mac user. So I….

  • Get a brand new dual processor G5, then
  • Rip out everything,
  • Cut out the back of the case so I can use a PC motherboard, and
  • Install an Athlon motherboard.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure G5 is a great computer, but I wanted a Dell for Christmas. I don’t have any programs for Apple and didn’t feel like waiting for them. I thought about selling it, but my parents would be upset with me. After all, this was a very expensive gift and it meant a lot to them to give to me.

It’s a good thing my parents don’t know anything about computers, because I’m sure they would be really angry if they knew what I did. I have to say that I’m happy – I can keep on using XP.

This is as bad as genetically screwing up a human being.

Here’s a pic of the before and after:

G5 Wrecked

What a shame !
