Eid Mubarak

Well Eid El Fitr is just around the corner (tomorrow or the day after), ushering in the end of the holy month of Ramadan, and giving us our normal food-driven lives back.
Ahhh, i miss those coffee breaks at work ๐Ÿ˜‰

The Eid in Tunisia is a great occasion for extended families to see each other and stay in touch, as they go around visiting each other and wishing one another a happy Eid.

This year, just like last year, we’ll call my wife’s family in Jordan, then we’ll be going for a spin among my relatives wishing them a happy Eid.
I think my mom will be cooking Mloukhia, which is my favourite dish. So maybe we’ll be having dinner at my parent’s place after we finish visiting the relatives.

The second day of Eid will most probably be a day of laziness for me, as i’ll try to cover all the close relatives in day one ๐Ÿ˜›
Maybe we’ll go out somewhere or just relax at home and watch a movie.

The Douz Festival starts this week too, so going down south again and attending it would be a great idea, if only i had the money to afford it.

Anyway, Sneen Dayma and Eid Mubarak to everyone ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Magazine

Yesterday, as i was looking around for any interesting magazines to buy, i came across hi, the Arabic-language American-backed magazine targeted at the Arab youth mainly and Arab brains generally in an effort by the American government to brainwash us and promote the US to us.

Anyway, the first thing that struck me was how cheap it was, it only costs 1 Tunisian Dinar (70 US cents), which kind of makes it the cheapest magazine i know of, but the paper is high quality thick glossy paper, the kind of paper other people usually use for just the cover. It’s also got a good amount of content, so it’s quite a thick magazine.
So i’m thinking that they’re actually losing money making this magazine, and that they never planned on making money out of it, it’s more of a long term investment, in which the final revenue is a generation of brainwashed Arabs.

Anyway, i bought it out of curiosity to know what’s in it and how the content is formulated.

And well, it covers a lot of stuff from music to fashion to sports to technology to anything that would interest their target readers. And in between all that, and in the articles themselves, and at the bottoms of the pages, and in their replies to their readers’ messages, it’s basically a bunch of US promoting messages and ideas making the US sound like a one big happy perfect tender loving country.

The one thing that seems to escape these people’s minds is that nowadays there’s a television or at least a radio in every home, and that by simply turning it on and listening to the news their whole effort will get flushed away by news of the US and it’s tyranny throughout the world.

I think Arab readers should buy the magazine anyway, as it’s dirt cheap and has some nice content, but they should be careful about the messages they’re getting out of it.
In short, here’s my prescription: Read it, then make sure you listen to the news just after finishing it ๐Ÿ˜›

Stop Bush Campaign in UK !

So 15,000 police are deployed in London as part of an unprecedented security operation surrounding U.S. President George W. Bush’s four-day state visit as massive protests are planned.
On 20th Nov, demonstrators even plan to topple a statue of George Bush from a pedestal in Trafalgar Square.

And we’ve all heard about how the US asked for special permission to use mini-guns against the protestors, which are guns that are fired from a tank and can kill dozens of people at a time.

But, come on, isn’t that a bit weird though ? Tanks, Guns, Blocked streets, and a massive security force ?
Aren’t the US & UK supposed to be 2 friendly allied nations who have a very special relationship ?
And aren’t they supposed to be democratic countries, meaning that whatever they do or did must have been by the approval of the people of both countries ?
So, why are the people so mad about the war ? and why are they so against Bush ?
Obviously because they were lied to, and because they were thrown into a war they didn’t want to fight.
Not only that, but these so-called leaders still go on lying to the people, putting more lives in danger, throwing more tax-payers’ money away.

Just like the UK, i think the US people should stand up too. After all, it’s mostly their money and their children who are being thrown away.

In fact, i think that everyone in the world should stand up and “Stop Bush !”.
Because this is not just a US internal affair, it’s far more dangerous.
The US is the one and only power in this world, and the choice of it’s president not only affects the US but the whole world too, and the lives of each and every one of us.

Dead Sea Dry

I’ve been hearing about how the Dead Sea has been drying up for some time now, but only today did i get a true idea about how fast it’s drying up and how bad the situation is becoming.

If nothing is done, the Dead Sea could be literally dead and gone in 50 to 100 years time.

The problem is the result of the diversion of the waters of the Jordan River mainly by Israel for agriculture and in cities and towns.

What sucks the most though is that i lived in Jordan for 6 years and i’ve never visited the Dead Sea, i just passed by it a number of times on my way to Aqaba for a swim in the Red Sea. I guess i just took it for granted and thought it’d always be there and that it was relatively close and i could go anytime i wanted.
Well, now i’ve left Jordan and the Dead Sea is drying up, and i haven’t been there yet.

So, another thing on my list of important tasks when i go to Jordan (next year hopefully) is a visit to the Dead Sea.

Hmmmm, i think i’ll be posting a list of the stuff i want to do in Jordan in a seperate post.

Who asked for their opinion ??

“Bush pushes Middle East democracy”
That’s a news title i just read on CNN.
And i can’t help but wonder who the hell asked this guy for his opinion ?
Who asked the US for their opinion ?
Who asked the US to tell the world what to do and what not ?
Who asked the US to be the international police man ?
Why can’t they just mind their own business ?!

Democracy isn’t something you push, it isn’t something you force on people, it’s something that they have to choose for themselves and enforce by themselves, it’s no one’s problem but theirs, it’s no one’s business but theirs !

Just like the US spent years and years to get to what it calls democracy without anyone interfering, it should mind it’s own business and stop pushing it’s nose into other countries’ business too.

Tyrant rulers and dictators have been around ever since the creation of human kind, and the only real and durable solution to that problem would come from the people themselves, by the people uniting and moving and fighting for what they think is right not by some stranger coming in and occupying them using a dumb lie pretext that they’re giving them freedom and democracy.

Can YOU Be a Pornstar?

Well, it seems the great US civilization is going another big step forward and producing a new reality TV show called “Can YOU Be a Pornstar?”.

Real pornstars will be hosting the TV show, including Mary Carey who was running for governer in California in the ridiculous recall vote.

A group of 28 women will compete for a one-year contract with a major adult video distributor and a cash prize of $100,000.

In each episode, four women arrive at a house in Los Angeles for photo shoots, interviews and “surprises,” according to Silhouette (the company producing the show). Viewers will help pick eight finalists for a 90-minute finale.
They promised “uninhibited nudity and sizzling sexuality,” while the show’s official Web site said it would feature “Real people having real sex!”

I’m truly speechless.
I can’t believe it how humans continue to degrade themselves using the banner of freedom of expression and sexuality.
This world has truly become a sex-crazed world.

I know some of the people who know me will be saying: Oh look who’s talking. Well yeah, i’m no angel, i know. I’m a guy after all, and we’re all natural born perverts, lol, and i’ve seen my share of porn, read my share of sex stories, and had my share of daydream fantasies, …etc.
It’s only normal, everyone goes through that period of sexual obsession, it’s how (and if) they come out of it in the end that counts, i think i’ve come out pretty stable in the end ๐Ÿ˜‰

A Threat To World Peace

An opinion poll held by the European Commission suggests more European Union citizens see Israel as a threat to world peace than any other country including Iran, Iraq and North Korea.

60% of Europeans consider Israel a threat to peace. And the US follows as a second with 53 %.

Of course Israel was outraged by these results and says that it shows that anti-Semitism is deeply embedded within European society, but i think that’s wrong. I think it’s just that people’s eyes are opening up and they’re seeing Israel for what it really is.

Israel do everything they do, kill innocent people, destroy homes, bomb whole cities and villages, and when anyone speaks out: it’s anti-semitism.
No, it’s not anti-semitism, it’s anti Israeli policies, it’s anti Israeli occupation, it’s anti Israeli crimes !

Insufficient Memory

I remember once being told that Goldfish have a short memory span, i’m not even sure it’s true, but well that’s only secondary to what i’m attempting to get to.
Anyway, I’m noticing that we humans are becoming more and more like Goldfish, our attention and memory spans are becoming shorter and shorter, and i think it’s because of the everyday things surrounding us.
When you get used to cruising through satellite channels taking just a short look at each channel at a time, or surfing through a number of websites at a time for bits of information here and there, you just get used to that and it affects the way you think i guess.

I mean, so many times, i’d be talking to someone and i know they’re there for the first few seconds and then God knows where they go. And even when they listen and focus, in a few minutes after it, they’ll have no idea what you were talking about.

A lot of people don’t even read books anymore, just because they can’t go through a whole book and all it’s events.

I think we humans are losing our ability to focus, and that’s really bad.
We’re becoming more and more like the computers we created. I can just imagine us as a PC running Windows 95, crashing every 5 seconds, giving us a blue screen with “Insufficient Memory” written in it ๐Ÿ˜‰
