Virgin Galactic

British entrepreneur Richard Branson has announced his company “Virgin” has signed a deal to offer the world’s first commercial flights to space under the branding “Virgin Galactic.”

Branson, head of the Virgin Atlantic airline, said Monday that passengers in groups of five could be sent into orbit by 2008 at around $200,000 a trip.

Branson said the money raised in the early part of the business would be ploughed back to bring the cost of seats in space down.

Branson’s licensing deal is with Mojave Aerospace Ventures (MAV), owned by U.S. entrepreneur Paul Allen (Microsoft co-founder). Allen funded the SpaceShipOne project, designed by Rutan and built by Rutan’s company Scaled Composites.

Wow.
Now, if that’s not cool, I don’t know what is.

I hope the prices go down quickly so that I maybe get to travel on board one of these flights. That would be so out of this world! (literally :P).

Things Google knows about you

Ever wondered what Google actually knows about you?

First
– Everything you search for using Google
– Every web page you visit that has Google Adsense ads on it
– Which country you’re in
– Every Blogger page you visit, and the referring page

If you have an Adsense account
– Your full name, address and bank account details
– The IP address of everyone who visits your pages with Adsense ads on them
– The number of visitors to each of your pages with Adsense ads on them

If you use a GMail account
– Who you send emails to
– Who sends emails to you
– The contents of those emails
– The contents of all emails received from any mailing lists of which you are a member, even if they are private mailing lists.

Even if you don’t use a GMail account
– The contents of any emails you send to anyone who does use a GMail account
– The contents of any emails you send to any mailing lists of which any one member uses a GMail account

If you’re a member of Orkut
– Your online social network, interests and groups

Pretty scary, huh?
I actually use all of the above Google services ๐Ÿ˜›
Oh well, I don’t care, I’ve got nothing to hide.

Internet Meltdown Today?!

A Russian computer security expert predicted yesterday that a large chunk of the Internet will be shut down by terrorists today.

Aleksandr Gostev from Kaspersky Labs was speaking at a conference hosted by Russian Information Agency Novosti. The cyber terrorists main targets will be the US and Western Europe, he said.

Oh well, everything seems to be ok up to now. And honestly I don’t think anything will happen.

Anyway, I’d truly prefer there be an online terrorist attack then a real world one. At least online we’re sure no precious innocent lives are lost.
Just a few websites going down and then they can be brought up again.

In the worst scenario, some money-making sites will stop making money for a while, but that’s about it.

Some Arab Wisdom

Here is a number of wise Arab proverbs I came across that I thought I’d share here.

– Believe what you see and lay aside what you hear.

– A known mistake is better than an unknown truth.

– Call someone your lord and he’ll sell you in the slave market.

– The fool has his answer on the tip of his tongue.

– The wound that bleedeth inwardly is the most dangerous.

– The wound of words is worse than the wound of swords.

– A house divided cannot stand.

– Seek counsel of him who makes you weep, and not of him who makes you laugh.

– Only the tent pitched by your own hands will stand.

– Ask the experienced rather than the learned.

– Think of the going out before you enter.

Help Make Blogs More Visible!

There are by some estimates more than a million weblogs. But most of them get no visibility in search engines. Only a few “A-List” blogs get into the top search engine results for a given topic, while the majority of blogs just don’t get noticed. The reason is that the smaller blogs don’t have enough links pointing to them. But this posting could solve that. Let’s help the smaller blogs get more visibility!

This posting is GoMeme 4.0. It is part of an experiment to see if we can create a blog posting that helps 1000’s of blogs get higher rankings in Google. So far we have tried 3 earlier variations. Our first test, GoMeme 1.0, spread to nearly 740 blogs in 2.5 days. This new version 4.0 is shorter, simpler, and fits more easily into your blog.

Why are we doing this? We want to help thousands of blogs get more visibility in Google and other search engines. How does it work? Just follow the instructions below to re-post this meme in your blog and add your URL to the end of the Path List below. As the meme spreads onwards from your blog, so will your URL. Later, when your blog is indexed by search engines, they will see the links pointing to your blog from all the downstream blogs that got this via you, which will cause them to rank your blog higher in search results. Everyone in the Path List below benefits in a similar way as this meme spreads. Try it!

Instructions: Just copy this entire post and paste it into your blog. Then add your URL to the end of the path list below, and pass it on! (Make sure you add your URLs as live links or HTML code to the Path List below.)

Path List
1. Minding the Planet
2. Luke Hutteman’s public virtual MemoryStream
3. Subzero Blue
4. (your URL goes here! But first, please copy this line and move it down to the next line for the next person).

(NOTE: Be sure you paste live links for the Path List or use HTML code.)
