The Usual Suspects Sequel

It seems that a sequel for “The Usual Suspects“, which is one of my all-time favourite movies, is in the works; nine years after the original.

Chazz Palminteri, who played agent Dave Kujan in The Usual Suspects has said that studio heads are “Beyond the talking stages” of developing a follow-up film which would probably be titled “Searching for Keyser Soze“.

And it seems Kevin Spacey will be in this one too, as he apparently told Superman director Bryan Singer, who also directed The Usual Suspects, he’ll work with him on the sequel to the 1995 film.

I loved the first one, and I’m hoping that if Bryan Singer will be directing this one too, and Kevin Spacey will be acting in it, it will be a great great movie. It’d also help if Bryan’s friend Christopher McQuarrie writes the sequel too.
I truly can’t wait…
I hope it lives up to my expectations…

Coach Carter

Yesterday we watched Coach Carter starring Samuel L. Jackson. The movie is a true story about controversial high school basketball coach Ken Carter who benched his undefeated team due to their collective poor academic record in 1999.

This was a really nice movie, well done, well acted and well directed.
But what I like most in this movie is it’s positive message that lives can be changed for the better through sorting priorities, self discipline, hard work and the building of character.

Being a true story adds to the beauty of it all.
I can only admire this coach for what he did and how he changed the lives of his team.
I really wish there were more people like him in our world, who really have their priorities straight and who want to make a change.

Samuel L. Jackson did a really good job in this role, proving yet again what a great actor he is.

My score for this movie is: 7/10.

Seed of Chucky

Yesterday we watched “Seed of Chucky“, the fifth movie in the Child’s Play series.

This movie is set five years after Bride of Chucky and shows how the child of Chucky and Tiffany, who is being used as a sideshow freak called ‘shitface’, finds out who his parents are and goes to hollywood to meet them.
Then…, oh who gives a damn, it’s a shitty stupid story after all!!!

This movie is not worth a second of your time. Sitting around looking blankly at a wall is a better use of time than watching this!

I can’t believe someone was dumb enough to think this piece of shit was worth investing any money into making a movie out of it.

It’s not scary, it’s not funny, the story is stupid, the acting is lame, and the list goes on. In fact, other than the word ‘shitface’, there’s nothing else that amused me in this movie.

My score for it is: 0/10.

Star Wars Rewatched

These past days I’ve been renting the Star Wars DVDs to see all of them again. I’ve been wanting to do that ever since I saw “Revenge Of The Sith” in Jordan, and I’m glad I did.

It was great seeing the whole series again, now that it’s over. I saw the old movies a long time ago in my childhood and my memory was starting to fail me on a lot of details. It was so cool seeing them again, rediscovering them and seeing all the pieces falling into place again.

What amazes me the most in the old movies is how great the quality of the animation is, even though it was done a long time ago in the 70s and early 80s.
The feeling of continuity between the new movies and the older ones is fascinating too.

After seeing all the movies, I think my favourites now are “Return of the Jedi” and “Revenge of the Sith”. I guess it’s because of the action, excitement, suspense in them.

Bravo to George Lucas for this masterpiece.
He truly made cinematic history with these movies.

Hitch

Last night, we got to watch “Hitch” at last. The movie stars Will Smith, Eva Mendes, Kevin James and Amber Valletta.

It’s a really nice comedy about a “date doctor”, who while helping one of his clients woo the lady of his dreams, falls in love with a gossip columnist and finds his ways don’t quite work on her.

I really enjoyed this movie and actually started watching it again last night. I really like Will Smith in comedy roles, he’s a genuinely funny guy.
Kevin James did a great job, funny as usual. Eva Mendes and Amber Valletta were really good too.

Hitch also reminds me of myself a bit, as I used to do a similar job with my friends, giving them directions and tips on how to win over the affection of girls they like or have crushes on.

I think this movie is a comedy worth checking out.

My score for it would be: 7.5/10.

Hide And Seek

Last night we watched Hide And Seek, starring Robert De Niro and Dakota Fanning.

The movie is a thriller/drama/horror about a widower who tries to piece his life together in the wake of his wife’s suicide, and his daughter who seems to find solace, at first, in her imaginary friend Charlie, until things go bad.

I actually like the idea and story of the movie, but I believe it could have been executed a lot better.
It’s a shame they allowed it to get a bit boring at certain stages of the movie, which basically weakened it as a movie.

Dakota Fanning is a great great talent though. She is just amazing. In every movie I’ve seen her in, she outshines all the other actors, in this case De Niro himself.

If you’ve got nothing better to see, then check this movie out just for the sake of seeing Dakota do another great job, and for the idea and twist of the movie.

My score for this movie is: 6/10.

Hotel Rwanda

On the plane back to Tunisia, I finally got to see Hotel Rwanda, starring Don Cheadle.

I heard a lot about this movie and saw the trailer, which really made me want to see it.

It tells the true life story of Paul Rusesabagina, a hotel manager who housed over a thousand Tutsis refugees during their struggle against the Hutu militia in Rwanda.

It’s a really great, powerful and touching movie, a must-see for sure. Don Cheadle does an amazing job in it, with so much passion.
It portrays how one man put everything on the line to help his countrymen while the west and the whole world turned their backs on them, starting with Belgium which played a big role in the creation of the problem.

I highly recommend this movie. It was nominated for 3 Oscars and 3 Golden Globes, as well as a bunch of other awards that it was nominated for or won.

My score for it is: 8/10.

Guess Who

Guess WhoA few days ago we went to see “Guess Who” featuring Ashton Kutcher and Bernie Mac.

We saw the trailer for this movie a number of times and it looked really cool and funny. It turned out it really was, although I expected it to be just a bit funnier.

The story is about a white guy and black girl who fall in love, and who want to announce their engagement to her parents while visiting and attending their vow renewals. It has some really hilarious moments, and it reminds me a lot of “Meet The Parents”.

Ashton Kutcher did an ok job in this movie too. I believe stuff like this is what suits him the most. Bernie Mac was very funny in this movie. I don’t like his sitcom, but he’s a lot better in movies.

All in all, it was a really nice and funny movie.

My score for it would be: 7/10

A Lot Like Love

A Lot Like LoveWe just got back from watching “A Lot Like Love“, starring Ashton Kutcher and Amanda Peet.

The movie is a light romantic comedy about two people who cross paths, make a connection, and then keep coming back to each other every now and then, with a romance growing between them.

I’m not much of an Ashton Kutcher fan, in fact I used to hate the guy’s guts, especially with Punk’d. Anyway this movie is quite nice.
It’s no cinematic masterpiece or anything, it’s just what it’s meant to be, a nice light romantic comedy.

Both lead actors do a pretty good job, and I actually liked Ashton in this role and felt he was very natural playing it. Amanda Peet, I’ve liked in all her roles up to now.

If you have some time to spare and feel like a light movie, this could be the one for you.

My score for it is: 6.5/10.
