You know how when you hear about how bad a movie is, and how much it sucks, and it gets you curious to see how bad it could really be?
Well that’s what happened to me; I was at the DVD rental shop and among the available movies I found “Snakes On A Plane” featuring Samuel L. Jackson, and I simply got curious.
To say the truth, I’ve seen movies that were worse than this one, but still it doesn’t really make it any better. It’s B-movie, straight to television material at best.
It’s true there are some ok sequences of this snake or another killing a person, but other than that, this movie is basically a waste of time.
What’s weird is that NewLine actually went back to film more footage for this film upon recommendation of the fans, and I suspect those were actually the ok scenes, so I don’t even want to imagine what the movie was like before that.
I don’t get it why really good actors like Samuel L. Jackson agree to work on such bad movies sometimes, it’s a waste of talent, and an act of disrespect towards themselves.
I know everyone needs money, but when you’ve built a name for yourself, you should be a bit more selective when it comes to what movies you stick your name on.
Anyway, if I were to rate this movie, I think I’d give it a: 3/10.
Still, if you want, for some weird reason, such as owning a piece of cinematic history crap, you can buy the “Snakes On A Plane” DVD here.

Well my curiosity didn’t take me as far as buying the dvd, I just rented it.
Generally I only buy DVDs of movies that I watched and really really liked.

This is the kind of cult movies that (intentionaly or not) explore cinematic stereotypes borders and take them to new extremes.
Horror movies are best known for that kind of exage: ChainSaw Massacre took gore movies to a new extreme, Scream as a self parody of horror movies created a new genre, Dawn of the Dead and The Living Dead popularized zombie movies, etc. Sometimes, cult movies are very bad movies, so bad that by some weired social phenomenon they create a huge buzz around them. It is the case for SoP, the second movie ever to create such an unexpected buzz on the Web (The fisrt being The Blair Witch Project)

@Houssein: Yep, it’s true. It’s a really interesting phenomenon how some movies get to achieve cult status.
Looking at the list of cult films at Wikipedia, there’s a bunch of them which I really love and another bunch I didn’t like at all.
I agree with Houssein, the buzz around this movie reminds me of the Blair witch project. The difference IMHO is that it was unintentional, but I doubt this one is.
I mean they (marketing guys) didn’t start it, they didn’t planned a word of mouth marketing strategy from the beginning, what happened surprised them, they didn’t expect it. However they were smart enough to quickly buy into the internet user generated buzz…
@Samsoum, I actually think it’s the opposite, I think that with “The Blair Witch Project” it was intentional as it was marketed, months of publicity, and the studio suggested that it was a real event.
As for “Snakes On A Plane”, it wasn’t really planned, they made a movie, it sucked but they were going to release it, but then a number of fans started coming up with ideas and they were smart enough to follow the movement, which created a following and interest in the movie.
@Houssein: Yep, it was smart of them to buy into the buzz and use it, the result wasn’t much better as a movie, but I’m sure that commercially the movie did better because of it.
I am not much of a snake admirer and have a phobia on reptiles ,though i believe in their rights to living along where we enjoy nature. one short comment about Santana’s new album “All That I Am”, I agree it is nice work. Santana’s guitar still gives me a nosalgic feelings I feel I am taken way back in years.
