Sandy-haired English actor Daniel Craig was unveiled Friday as the star of the next Bond film, “Casino Royale,” due in theaters in November 2006.
Producer Michael G. Wilson said 200 actors had been considered, but Craig was the only one who had been offered the role.
Speculation about the new Bond included Clive Owen, Ioan Gruffudd, Colin Firth, Hugh Grant, Gerard Butler, Ewan McGregor, Colin Farrell, Hugh Jackman, Heath Ledger and Eric Bana.
I’ve only seen Daniel Craig in “The Road To Perdition” and “The Jacket”, and he was good.
But I don’t know why I don’t feel he fits the Bond character. Maybe it’s his blond hair, maybe it’s his not-so-bondish looks, maybe it’s something else; I don’t know. I’m just not too sure about this.
Looking at the bright side, he couldn’t possibly turn out worse than George Lazenby who did only one movie “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service”. That guy is definitely my least favorite Bond.
Na’ah doesn’t look right, I think that Clive Owen, or Colin Firth would be more suitable. Anyway I never was a big fan of 007.
I’m one of the biggest fans of James Bond movies. I’ve seen them all a number of times.
Personally, from the list above, I would pick Hugh Jackman or Gerard Butler. They’re the only ones on the list who have the Bond charisma.
While Clive Owen has the looks, to me he’s very stale and dead. Doesn’t have that liveliness.
Hugh Jackman doesn’t even look like a typical ‘James Bond’ character.
Gerard Butler looks very cocky and evil. He was also in the James Bond movie: Tommorow Never Dies.
If you want to see why Daniel Craig is the best fit for being James Bond, go watch Layer Cake.
I agree with you Adam, after you watch the Mathew Vaughn directed Layer Cake, you will see why Daniel craig is a logical choice for James bond, especially considering the direction of the next bond film — In my opinion he is the actor to take the Bond franchise is exactly the right direction.
I’ll have to check that movie out then ๐
Thanks for the tip ๐
I’m very disappointed with the choice of Daniel Craig as the new James Bond. He’s blond, relatively short, and doesn’t have that Bond-appeal…not to mention his acting skills, or perhaps more appropriately, the lack thereof.
Gerard Butler should have gotten it. He’s an excellent actor, has the look that makes most women swoon, and he would have brought a certain cohesiveness to the films. This new guy is like a massive speed bump, or even detour, on what up until now has been a relatively smooth road.
Also, you would think they would take advantage of releasing it next year in 2-007, but apparently it’s slated for release in 2008.
I, for one, won’t be watching this one.
